How to Maintain Natural Stone and Marble
• Protecting the Stone:
We assume that the stone has been treated with a suitable impregnator or stone
Seal such as Lithofin MN Stainstop
• Cleaning the stone floor:
It is better to clean the floor and walls “little but often” with the correct product, rather than enthusiastically with the wrong one. Some good ‘household cleaners’ will clean off the protector and not help the long life of the floor. Worse still they can damage the face of the stone or remove a polish from marble surfaces.
Wipe up any spillages as you go. Remove dust and other debris regularly by vacuuming, sweep with a soft brush or skim with a ‘just damp’ mop
If the stone has been protected with “Stainstop”, “Easy-care” also from Lithofin, should be used for day-to-day cleaning, or equivalent ph neutral soap.

Any suitable impregnator will provide a barrier to ingress of dirt and spills but the maintenance of the stone is key. Regular use of Easy Care for example will help the floor acquire a beautiful patina in a relatively short space of time and will help protect against dirt and spills.
An occasional clean may be required with a stronger agent, such as “Wexa” by Lithofin, or Powerclean, but do not over clean your stone tiles with scrubbers and chemicals. These are more suitable for renovation or recovery of a neglected floor.
Tops and shower areas may need regular maintenance.
Paving should be swept regularly to remove dead leaves and other detritus. Wash with mild soapy water but avoid “algae removers” without consulting the helpline below.
